Krautburgers
Start with:
Dissolve yeast in 1 cup luke warm water with sugar, set aside and let rise.
Mix:
- 10-12 Cups flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup cooking oil
- 3-4 cups warm milk (to make soft dough)
Combine flour, eggs, salt, cooking oil and warm milk. Add yeast mixture to flour mixture and knead well, about 15 minutes and let dough rise and punch down 2 times. Once the dough has risen the second time start preparing meat mixture.
Meat Mixture
- 2-3 lbs hamburger browned
- 1½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper (to taste)
- Medium head of cabbage
- Medium onion
Grate a medium head cabbage and onion. Add to browned hamburger. Mix well and let steam for about 15 minutes until cabbage is soft. Drain meat mixture in colander.
While the juices are draining from meat mixture start rolling out dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut dough in approximately 4 inch squares and drop hamburger mixture on dough. Pinch corners and seams together so that no meat mixture is showing. Place pinched side of pocket on greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes rotating after 15 minutes if have 2 pans in the oven at the same time.
